Prorector for Education Lykke Friis

Lykke Friis took office as Prorector for Education at the University of Copenhagen on 1 August 2013 after having served as Minister of Climate and Energy from 2009 to 2011 - from 2010 also as Minister for Gender Equality - and from 2011 to 2013 as a member of the Danish Parliament. Before her ministerial office, Lykke Friis was Prorector at the University from 2006.

As Prorector for Education, Lykke Friis is responsible for the interdisciplinary aspects of education, and she chairs the University’s Academic Board on Education Strategy and is also responsible for the development of the University’s digital and other communication, including to students.

Lykke Friis was born in 1969. In 1992, she received an MSc. in European Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science and the following year she obtained an MSc. in Political Sciences from the University of Copenhagen. In 1997, she received her PhD in international politics, also at the University of Copenhagen.

Lykke Friis has spent several years conducting research into and working with the EU and European politics and she has published scientific articles on the topic and taught international relations and European politics at the University of Copenhagen and Copenhagen Business School. In addition, she has contributed to Danish media on European politics and affairs - and on football too, among other things.

From 2003 to 2006, Lykke Friis was Head of European Affairs at the Confederation of Danish Industries and before that Head of Research at the Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS).
