The University of Copenhagen is among Denmark’s largest workplaces. More than 40,000 employees and students pass through its 1,000,000 square meters on a daily basis. A workplace of the University of Copenhagen’s size and research profile must recognize its ‘green responsibility’, as it is stated in the University strategy “Destination 2012”.
The University has opened the Green Campus Office to facilitate the process of incorporating sustainability into the overall development, operation and general conduct of the University of Copenhagen. The University is prioritizing sustainability, and it’s goals are ambitious: ‘University of Copenhagen will work towards becoming one of Europe’s most green campus areas’ (Destination 2012)
Focus of The Green Campus initiative is reducing the University’s environmental impact, especially concerning energy consumption and CO2 emissions. The efforts include global collaboration and involvement of employees and students.
